Saginaw River Passage - June 1, 2025: Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41 - Part 2

Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41 arrived on the Saginaw River, not to deliver a cargo, but to load one.  The pair tied up at the Sargent Docks & Terminal in Zilwaukee on Sunday and began taking on a cargo of gypsum that was mined at the KeyTerra Gypsum Mine in Turner, Michigan.  This load is headed to Green Bay to be delivered.  Since the end of grain exports from the Saginaw River in the 1990's, you could count on one hand the number of outbound shipments from the Saginaw River.  This new venture is an exciting business opportunity and will provide many more loads being shipped out from here!  Photos Taken 6/1/25

Saginaw River Passage - June 1, 2025: Sharon M I/Huron Spirit

The fourth commercial vessel to arrive on the Saginaw River on a busy June 1st, the tug Sharon M I and self-unloading barge Huron Spirit were to unload in the slip at Port Fisher for Bay Aggregates, but that spot was already occupied by Defiance/Ashtabula.  The pair continued a short distance upriver, tying up at the Port Fisher Terminals Dock to wait their turn in the slip.  Once Defiance/Ashtabula departed Monday morning and the inbound American Courage cleared upbound, the pair went back downriver, entered the slip, and began their unload for Bay Aggregates just before 7am.  Photos taken 6/2/25

Saginaw River Passage - June 1, 2025: Defiance/Ashtabula

Tug and barge combinations are a Saginaw River hallmark.  Defiance/Ashtabula were back on the Saginaw River Sunday evening, calling on the Port Fisher slip to unload for Bay Aggregates.  The pair were outbound early Monday morning after unloading. So far this season, 21 of the 40 commercial deliveries have been by tug/barge vessels.  Photos taken 6/1/25
