Samuel de Champlain/Innovation on the Saginaw River, at the Holcim Cement Dock in Essexville after unloading overnight. Before departing on the morning of August 28th, the tug North Dakota made several passes along side the pair to create a large wake. Apparently, the Samuel de Champlain was "shifted" in the notch and was using the wake to help correct her position.

There
were a total of 26 commercial vessel passages on the Saginaw River for the
month of July 2023, with 13 different docks receiving 36 separate deliveries of
product, accounting for split cargos delivered to more than one dock. This represents six more passages than last
year in July 2022, and is more than the 5-year average of 24 passages, the 10-year
average of 21, and the 15-year average of 20 vessel passages.
For the total number of commercial vessel passages for the year-to-date, there have been 79. This number is exactly the same as the total from last year at this point. Looking at the averages, it is a decrease compared to the 5-year average of 80 passages, but an increase over the 10-year average of 67 passages, and the 15-year average also of 67 vessel passages.
