Saginaw River Passage - June 22, 2023

Tug North Dakota, inbound on the Saginaw River June 22, headed up to the old Lafarge Cement Terminal in Carrollton to tie up. Great Lakes Towing will now have a presence on the Saginaw River, stationing the North Dakota here.

Saginaw River Passage - June 7, 2023

This morning on the Princess Wenonah, on our way back to our home dock at Wenonah Park, we passed the outbound G.L. Ostrander/Integrity at the Holcim Cement Dock, right after they turned in the Essexville Turning Basin. Schooner Appledore IV was also just ahead of us.

Saginaw River Passage - June 4th, 2023

Today, I had the great pleasure to be a guest on the Mark W. Barker for a trip from the Wirt Stone Dock in Bay City, to the Wirt Stone Dock in Saginaw. The Captain and the crew were amazing hosts! And while I still love the classic boats, the Mark W. Barker is modern technology personified and an amazing boat. Many thanks to everyone for a great day!

Following the boats of the Saginaw River and Great Lakes

Here is a little background on my history with the boats: I have been an avid photographer and follower of the big lake freighters that carry their cargoes between the ports of the Great Lakes. During that time, a number of my photos have been used by various shipping companies and in publications from the U.S. Coast Guard, Lake Carriers Association, the Marine Legal Review, and in the annual boatwatchers bible, "Know Your Ships". I also report news and vessel passage information from the Saginaw River to both Boatnerd.com and to the local newspaper, The Bay City Times, and have been fortunate enough to have had the honor of being aboard and taking a trip on a Great Lakes Freighter. I am also a licensed U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner, Captain and deckhand for the Bay City Boat Lines, and a Deckhand for Malcom Marine, Inc.
