Saginaw River Passage - June 5th
Wednesday saw Cuyahoga make her first visit of the season to the Saginaw River, as she traveled all of the the up to the Sixth Street Basin and unloaded at the Lafarge Stone dock in Saginaw. She departed the dock late in the evening, and was backing down the Saginaw River.
Hey Todd just wondering if strong current in the river was the reason for Cuyahoga to back all the way down the river from unloading at the Lafarge Stone dock rather then just turn off the dock in the sixth street turning basin,or are they dreadging still up there in the turning basin? By the way when did the Kuber finally make it out and where did she end up turning at? Thanks Dan McNeil
ReplyDeleteDan,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like the turning basin at Sixth Street in Saginaw is silted in. the Olive L. Moore-Lewis J. Kuber tried turning up there earlier this season and couldn't. So that is probably why Cuyahoga backed down as well. Looks like some dredging is definately needed up there.....
Todd thanks for the reply back.that turning basin must really be silted in pretty bad if the boats cant turn in it when they are empty. In all the years I used to live up in the saginaw area I never saw it that bad. This past winter must have really been tough on the river because I was up there this past Auguest and again for my uncles funeral and saw both Manistie and the Lewis J. Kuber turn up in the sixth street turning basin. Is laudkie supposed to go up that far and dredge as they are in the Lower river that you know of? Thanks Dan
ReplyDeleteOnce they complete their contract for the lower river. I believe they have the contract to do the upper river as well, and will head up there. Mississagi unloaded at the Buena Vista dock yesterday and then backed down to the airport to turn.
