There
were a total of 27 commercial vessel passages on the Saginaw River during the
month of July 2024, with 15 different docks receiving 36 separate deliveries of
product, accounting for split cargos delivered to more than one dock. This represents one more passage compared to
July 2023, and it is more than all of the long term averages, with the 5-year
average being 24 passages for July, the 10-year average of 22 passages, the 15-year
average of 20 passages, and the 20-year average being 23 vessel passages for
the month of July.
For the total number of commercial vessel passages for the year-to-date, there have been 86. This is seven more passages than last year at this point. Looking at the averages, the 86 passages for the year to date is more than the 5-year average of 83, the 10-year average of 72 passages, the 15-year average of 67 passages, and the 20-year average of 80 vessel passages.
During the month of July, there were 22 deliveries to the docks on the lower half of the Saginaw River, located in Essexville and Bay City, and 14 deliveries to upper river docks, located in Zilwaukee, Carrollton, and Saginaw. Nine vessels carried split loads with cargo unloaded at more than one dock.
