Saginaw River Report - August 2024

There were a total of 25 commercial vessel passages on the Saginaw River during the month of August 2024, with 12 different docks receiving 36 separate deliveries of product, accounting for split cargos delivered to more than one dock.  This represents seven more passages compared to August 2023, and it is more than all of the long term averages, with the 5-year average being 24 passages for August, the 10-year average of 22 passages, the 15-year average of 22 passages, and the 20-year average being 24 vessel passages for the month of August.

For the total number of commercial vessel passages for the year-to-date, there have been 111.  This is 15 more passages than last year at this point.  Looking at the averages, the 111 passages for the year to date is more than the 5-year average of 107, the 10-year average of 94 passages, the 15-year average of 89 passages, and the 20-year average of 105 vessel passages.

During the month of August, there were 21 deliveries to the docks on the lower half of the Saginaw River, located in Essexville and Bay City, and 15 deliveries to upper river docks, located in Zilwaukee, Carrollton, and Saginaw.  Ten vessels carried split loads with cargo unloaded at more than one dock.
