Lafarge Cement, on the Saginaw River, takes down old cement clinker buildings
The demolition of the old cement clinker buildings at the Lafarge Cement Dock in Essexville is now complete. Back when the plant was owned by Essroc Cement, clinker was brought in and stored in the two large rounded white domes. It was then crushed and made into cement powder. The last cargo of clinker was delivered to the plant on June 10, 2010 by the CSL Tadoussac. The plant was sold to Lafarge and a new powdered cement unloader was installed, eliminating the need for cement clinker.
