Continuing on with photos from my recent trip, here are some photographs of the U.S. Coast Guard in Cheboygan with a bonus Mackinaw 83 shot from Mackinaw City. Some of the close-up shots were taken from the glass bottom tour boat "Yankee Sunshine" as we passed by. The close in shots from the air were taken with the 7x zoom on the DJI Mavic 3 Pro, so the photo quality is not as good zoomed in that much. I did speak to the U.S. Coast Guard by telephone before flying to let them know what time I was going to be in the air and what my intentions were, then standing off at the agreed upon distance when flying. They told me that they appreciated the call. Always fly within the laws/regulations and a friendly call never hurts as well depending on the circumstances, especially when dealing with military vessels. It is a little ironic, that from the public boat launch across from the Mackinaw, you are only a few hundred feet away and on the Yankee Sunshine we were maybe 50 feet away as we passed. From the air, my distance was much, much farther. Photos taken between June 11th-13th, 2025
