Traffic rebounded nicely during the month of June, as there were 27 commercial vessel passages on the Saginaw River for the month, with 12 different docks receiving a total of 40 deliveries of product accounting for split cargo loads delivered to more than one dock. These passages represent the same number recorded during June 2025. Looking at long-term averages, the 27 passages in June were higher than all of them with the 5-year average at 23 passages, 10-year average at 23, the 15-year average at 21 passages, and the 20-year average at 22 commercial vessel passages for the month of June. There was also one outbound cargo: Gypsum loaded at the Sargent Docks & Terminal, bound for Green Bay, WI.
The total number of commercial vessel passages for the year-to-date is 43, which is 19 fewer than last year. Looking at the averages, the 43 passages for the year to date is less than all the long-terms, with the 5-year average being 55, 10-year average at 52, the 15-year average at 48, and the 20-year average at 51 vessel passages for the year to date as of the end of June.
During the month of June, there were 23 deliveries to the docks on the lower half of the Saginaw River, located in Essexville and Bay City, and 17 deliveries to upper river docks, located in Zilwaukee, Carrollton, and Saginaw. 13 vessels carried split loads with cargo unloaded at more than one dock. For the year-to-date, there have been 38 lower river deliveries and 22 upper river deliveries, with 18 split loads.
The vessels making deliveries to the Saginaw River in June were Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder (4), Sam Laud (3), Olive L. Moore/Menominee (3), Manitoulin (3), Samuel de Champlain/Innovation (2), Manitowoc (2), Defiance/Ashtabula (2), Robert S. Pierson (2), Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41, Alpena, Algoma Compass, Calumet, H. Lee White, Sharon M I/Huron Spirit.
