Saginaw River Report - August Vessel Passages 2023

There were a total of 18 commercial vessel passages on the Saginaw River for the month of August 2023, with 10 different docks receiving 28 separate deliveries of product, accounting for split cargos that are delivered to more than one dock.  This represents 8 fewer passages than last year in August 2022, and is less than the 5-year average of 25 passages, the 10-year average of 22, and the 15-year average of 21 vessel passages for August.  This was the fewest number of August deliveries since the 2016 season when there were only 12.

For the total number of commercial vessel passages for the year-to-date, there have been 96.  This number is less than the total from last year at this point when there were 104 deliveries.  Looking at the averages, it is a decrease compared to the 5-year average of 105 passages, but an increase over the 10-year average of 89 passages, and the 15-year average also of 88 vessel passages.  This is also the lowest total for the season at the end of August since 2018 when there were 85 passages.
